MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Danny Heyward Hattaway, 64, Murfreesboro, Tenn., died April 30, 2011, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
A memorial service will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Woodfin Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born June 1, 1946, in Savannah, Ga., a son of Hubbie Heyward Hattaway and Eva Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hover; five sons, John Gabriel, Micah Joseph, Andrew Heyward, Collin Patrick and Christian Dyer-Taylor Hattaway; and three grandchildren, Joshua Connor, Justin Gabriel and Natalya Leigh Hattaway.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dan spent his childhood in Brunswick, Ga., where he attended Glynn Academy. He attended Mercer University after graduation from high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on March 8, 1968, and retired after 30 years on Aug. 6, 1997, with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He honorably served his country in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart award when he was wounded in action.
He worked for State Farm Insurance Cos. for more than 30 years and retired to Murfreesboro. He served as an assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America for more than a decade to Illinois Scouts. He enjoyed fishing, reading, cooking and spending time with his sons and grandsons.
