BLOOMINGTON — Darrel N. Lee, 84, Bloomington, died at 9:11 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 18, 2011) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington. Burial will be at Dawson Cemetery, Ellsworth. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Kidney Foundation.
He was born July 22, 1927, in Bloomington, son of Theodore and Goldie Irene Sweckard Lee. He married Beverly Builta on Sept. 2, 1950, in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving are children, Susan (Mike) Ferrier, Palmetto, Fla., and William (Karen) Lee, Normal; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Hammond, Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy Griesemer; and brother, Robert Lee.
Darrel was a member of Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Darrel worked for State Farm Insurance Cos. for 41 years. In 1951, he was transferred to Dallas as an accounting manager and while there became an auditor. In 1964, he was transferred to the home office in Bloomington as director of accounting and then as vice president of accounting.
He was a member of the Masons, American Legion, Bloomington Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Darrel loved to watch sports, mostly football, basketball and golf. He also enjoyed playing golf and traveling, especially to Mississippi and Florida.
He had a good sense of humor, enjoyed life and had many friends. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
