SAYBROOK — Delmar E. Smith, 85, of Saybrook passed away at 12:15 p.m. Monday (Nov. 28, 2005) at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook. The Rev. Stacy Landry will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Smith was born May 7, 1920, in Heyworth, a son of David Earnest and Tressie Mae Johnson Smith. He married Betty M. Wilken on Aug. 28, 1944, in Fowler, Ind. She survives in Saybrook.
Also surviving are two sons, D. Earl (Raytha) Smith, Cochranton, Pa., and Donald W. (Marian) Smith, rural Gibson City; one daughter, Della Mae (Ronald) Boswell, St. Joseph; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard (Phyllis) Smith, Villa Grove, and Everett Smith, LeRoy; and four sisters, Louise Sledge, Gladys Mayer and Alberta Martineze, all of LeRoy; and Mardell Tipsord, Saybrook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Delmar was a member of the LeRoy Christian Church, LeRoy; the American Hunting Club; and was a life member of the NRA. He was a former member and served on the board of the Piatt County Farm Bureau.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was also a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying.
