Dicie Smith

Dicie R. Smith, 83, of Hopedale, formerly of Minier, passed away Tuesday (Dec. 12, 2017) at Hopedale Nursing Home.

Dicie was born July 30, 1934, in Barren County, Ky., daughter of John and Gertrude Welch Richie. She married Lennie R. Smith on Dec. 22, 1951, in Temple Hill, Ky.

Dicie is survived by her husband of almost 66 years, Lennie, Hopedale; their children, Joanne (John) Nafziger, Stanford; Rick (Ann) Smith, Washington; Tim (Ellen) Smith, Mackinaw; Dan (Lisa) Smith, Parker, Colo.; grandchildren, Rob (Rebecca) Cloyd, Jason (Jenny) Byrd, Beth (Craig) Kleinschmidt, Jennifer (Brit) Dunaway, Sarah Smith, Amanda Smith, Matthew Smith, Miles Smith, Jared Smith; her great-grandchildren, Paige Cloyd, Jaxon Byrd, Colby Kleinschmidt, Cale Kleinschmidt, Everett Dunaway, Grant Dunaway, Isaac Dunaway; one sister, Nellie Nuckols, Bloomington.

Dicie was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.

Dicie worked for State Farm over 29 years. Dicie and Lennie spent several winters in the Sarasota, Fla., area after their retirement. They liked to travel and fish. Dicie liked to read, crochet and sew. She was a devoted mother and wife. She loved her family dearly.

Private services will be Saturday. Burial will be at Minier Cemetery. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Minier Christian Church for an informal open house. Haensel Funeral Home, Minier, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Minier Christian Church or St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
