BLOOMINGTON — Donald Royden "Shorty" Graning, 77, of 109 W. Market St., Apt. 203, Bloomington, died at 6:06 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 7, 2005) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, the Rev. Ed Herald officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy, with military rites accorded at cemetery by the Carl S. Martin Post 635. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the memorial home,
Memorials may be made to the family in care of his daughter, Christie Pfister, 605 N. Allin St., Bloomington.
He was born May 29, 1928, in Ellsworth, a son of Clarence Fredrick and Ethel Marie Shoemaker Graning.
Surviving are nine daughters, Jackie, Charlotte, Debra, Ladonna and BrendaGraning, all of Ohio; Christie (Tom) Pfister, Bloomington; Ellen (Gordie) Golden, Melvin; Peggy (Bill) Corry, Bloomington; and Donna Graning, Normal; one son, Danny Graning; two sisters, Mary Anne Raney, Normal, and Darlene Morillo, East Palatka, Fla.; one brother, Delmar Graning, Farmer City; and 12 grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
Don had served in the U.S. Army and Air Force for 30 years. He was a Korean War veteran and he obtained the rank of staff sergeant. He enjoyed his long walks around town.
