WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Dorothy Arthington, 98, of Winter Haven, Fla., died Friday (April 7, 2017) at Good Shepherd Hospice, Auburndale, Fla.
She is survived by three children, Gary (Carol), Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Cheryl (Walt) Grant, Crawfordsville, Ind.; and Kathy (Brad) Bennett, Winter Haven, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Orena Mital Ford, Cleveland, Tenn.
She was a graduate of Wapella High School and attended Illinois State University in Normal. Dorothy worked many years for the Normal Community school system in the superintendent’s office. Her last employment was with Lincoln Christian University and Seminary in Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Glenn Arthington, who died in 1974 in Bloomington; her parents, Ben and Jenny Hartley of Cleveland, Tenn.; sisters, Margarette Scarberry and Marie Bourne Sullivan, both of Cleveland, Tenn.; and twin granddaughters.
Dorothy was a very active and beloved member of Auburndale Community Church, where she was simply known as “GiGi” to all who knew her.
Family and friends will be received at 6 p.m. Friday at Auburndale Community Church, 601 Stadium Road, Auburndale, Fla. The celebration of her life will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
