BLOOMINGTON - Dorothy Alice Luehrs, 97, of 700 E. Walnut St., Bloomington, died at 10 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 18, 2006) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Bloomington.
A private graveside service will be at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born July 27, 1909, in Sparta, a daughter of Charles Edward and Sarah Alice Dains Neil. She married Lester W. Luehrs on March 16, 1933, at University City, Mo. He died March 27, 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald Luehrs and Martin C. (Dawn Kirk) Luehrs, both of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Kelly Luehrs, Chicago and Benjamin Luehrs, Bloomington; and a brother, Frederick Neil, Jackson, Miss.
She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington.
She attended Monmouth College and Southern Illinois University.
Dorothy and her husband, Les, retired to Melbourne, Fla., for 11 years before returning to Bloomington.
She lovingly provided care for her son Ronnie from the time of his birth until her death. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Dorothy had a charming wit that delighted all who knew her. In her past times, she enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, dancing and traveling.
