EL PASO — Dorothy Rogers Penning, 86, of El Paso, formerly of Alton, died at 9:03 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 6, 2005) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Gent Funeral Home, Alton, with the Rev. David Olson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Guest book may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com.

She was born Sept. 3, 1919, at Jerseyville, the daughter of Edwin Clifford and Lola G. Whitley Rogers. She married John A. "Jack" Penning on Feb. 27, 1942, at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton. He died July 28, 2004.
Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Schairer, El Paso; one son, John A. Penning Jr., Chesterfield, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Cynthia Schairer-Kessler, Steven Schairer, Sara Holly, John A. Penning III, Jill Darrah and Katharine Penning.
Her parents preceded her in death.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends at West Lake Country Club in Jerseyville. She also was an avid golfer and bridge player.
