FAIRBURY - Dorothy Tollensdorf, 81, passed away at 1:15 a.m. Monday (Oct. 12, 2009) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, with the Rev. Charlie McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Avoca Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born April 3, 1928, in Chenoa, the daughter of Lee and Nancy Pickett Newkirk. They preceded her in death. She married John Tollensdorf on Sept. 8, 1951, in Fairbury. He survives in Fairbury.
Also surviving are her children, Denise Tollensdorf, Galena; and John Tollensdorf Jr. and Doug (Theresa) Tollensdorf, both of Fairbury; granddaughters, Jenna (Justin Schroen) Tollensdorf and Chelsea Tollensdorf; and one sister, Shirley (Cubby) White, Chenoa.
Dorothy was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Newkirk.
She was a graduate of Chenoa High School and was employed at State Farm Insurance Cos. before she married.
Dorothy was an antique collector and history buff. She assisted her husband in getting Fairbury's Old City Hall and the Beach House on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Her love of flowers and plants was much enjoyed and she will be deeply missed by family and friends.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Dominy Memorial Library Building Fund or Brian Munz Safety Complex/SELCAS.
