BLOOMINGTON — Our beloved Aunt Dorothy peacefully passed away at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at her residence in Bloomington.
There will be no service or visitation. Inurnment will be private at a later date. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Jan. 23, 1913, at Thawville, a daughter of Frank and Verda Thomas Wagner.
Surviving is a niece, Trudy (Bob) Wollenschlager, Bloomington; a nephew, Steve (Denise) Wagner, Tucson, Ariz.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Her parents and three brothers, Lawrence, Gerald and Virgil Wagner, preceded her in death.
Dorothy’s passion was sharing with others her knowledge and love of nature. After many years of teaching, she followed her dreams and on Aug. 13, 1954, proudly received her bachelor of science in education from Illinois State Normal University. She continued to teach elementary school in Piper City and Decatur for over 40 years. Our aunt derived great satisfaction and pride through the many lives she touched. Through her journey, she taught us to be strong, never to give up, to be humble, and to selflessly give to others. Our memories of the moments we shared with our aunt will be with us forever. She will dearly be missed by her family and friends.
