CLINTON — Edward V. Hirstein Jr., 89, Clinton, formerly of Morton, died at 1:28 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 26, 2005) at Fair Havens Christian Home in Decatur.
He was born March 15, 1916, in South Bend, Ind., a son of Edward Sr. and Mary Gerber Hirstein. He married LaVerne A. Wieckhoff on Dec. 23, 1939, in Morton. She preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 2005. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Craig Barding; three brothers; and four sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Janet K. Barding, Decatur; one granddaughter, Amy (Bradley) Cleveland, Decatur; one great-grandson, Benjamin Cleveland, Decatur; one brother, W. Sam (Waunita) Hirstein, Morton; three sisters, Edna Fite and Ann Rupprecht, both of Morton, and Samantha Meeker, Junction City, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, including Cindy Justus, Mackinaw; and special friends, the Dennis Smith family of Decatur.
He was employed at Caterpillar Inc. in Decatur, retiring in 1977 as a supervisor on the assembly line.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, Morton.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
