DWIGHT — Edward W. Rieke, 87, of 400 W. Delaware St., Dwight, formerly of rural Reddick, died at 11:30 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 1, 2005) at his residence.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Zoar Community Church in Reddick, with the Rev. William Dean officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, Dwight. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

He was born June 29, 1918, in Reddick, a son of Arthur R. and Daisy Hamilton Rieke. He married Vivian VonQualen on Aug. 24, 1948, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Dwight. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Brent (Marjorie) Rieke, Morton, and Mark (Peggy) Rieke, Reddick; eight grandchildren, Jeanette (Stefan) Driesner; Dr. Joshua (Colleen) Rieke; Mary (Trent) Gerig; Laura (Paul) Johnston; and Sarah, Joel, Amber and Benjamin Rieke; three great-grandchildren, Micah and Abigail Driesner; and Kaela Gerig; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ruth; three sisters, Rosella Hoffman, Elizabeth Lehnus and Elda Nordmeyer; and four brothers, Vernon, Milton, Llewellyn and LeRoy.

He was a member of the Zoar Community Church, Reddick, and a retired farmer.

He was a charter member of Reddick Lions Club; a 4-H leader for 10 years; a member of Kankakee County Farm Bureau; and in his younger years was an active member of The Pure Milk Association. He was a graduate of Reddick High School. He always was ready to offer his help to anyone who needed it. Eddie was a humble and gentle man, always genuine, who loved his family and served others unselfishly.
