BLOOMINGTON - Essie L. Dennison, 89, Bloomington, passed away Tuesday (December 27, 2005) at BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.
She was born April 27, 1916, in Leitchfield, Ky., the daughter of Lawrence Lincoln and Leana Mae Quiggins Langdon. She married Clifford Dennison on Aug. 23, 1936. He preceded her in death in April 1995.
Also preceding her in death were two half-brothers, Elmer Ray Langdon and Edgar Lee Langdon, both of Leitchfield, Ky.; a son-in-law, Melvin R. “Bud” Vandegraft of Bloomington; and one brother-in-law, Tom Dennison and one sister-in-law, Betty Mae Dennison, both of Leitchfield.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Ann Vandegraft, Bloomington, and Barbara Jo (Bob) Crabtree, Normal; two sons, John (Effie) Dennison, Normal, and Pastor Don (Phyllis) Dennison, Findlay, Ohio; a sister, Cova (Charles) Dennison, Bloomington; a half-sister, Sarah Jane, Elizabethtown, Ky.; two half-brothers Murrell (Edith) Langdon, Louisville, Ky., and George (Mary) Langdon, Leitchfield, Ky.; a brother-in-law, W.C. (Lucy) Dennison, Frederick, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Doris (Tilford) Grant and Marie Langdon, both of Leitchfield, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Stephen (Merre) Vandegraft, David (Stacey) Vandegraft, Brenda (Chris) Garrett, Eric (Suzanne) Crabtree, Leanne (Shayne) Adcock, John Matthew Dennison, Susan (Kurt) Bloyd, Joel (Pastor Debi) Dennison and Nathan (Carrie) Dennison; sixteen great-grandchildren, Sarah Vandegraft, Jessica Vandegraft, Jennifer Vandegraft, Bethany Vandegraft, Aaron Crabtree, Sarah Crabtree, Lauren Adcock, Clint Bloyd, Olivia Bloyd, Katherine Dennison, David Dennison, Ruth Dennison, Isaac Brown, Bobby Brown, Mollie Brown and Vikki Gregory; and one great-great-grandchild, Tyler Brown.
Mrs. Dennison and her husband farmed in the Fisher, Gibson City, and McLean areas for many years. She retired in 1983 from St. Joseph Hospital after working 21 years in their maternity/nursery unit as a LPN.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and quilting and took great delight in her family. She was a member of the University Heights Church of God in Normal.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at East Lawn Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday also at East Lawn Funeral Home. Pastor John Lonabaugh will officiate. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Bloomington.
Memorials may be made to the University Heights Church of God or the Community Cancer Center.
