Esther "Joan" Renken, 82, of Normal, passed away 3:40 p.m. Monday (Oct. 30, 2017) at Heritage Health, Normal.
Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bloomington, with the Rev. Chad Lueck officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home, Bloomington, and one hour prior to service Monday at the church. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Joan was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Carlock, a daughter to Elmer Jones and Edith Marguerite Clark Waller. She married Herbert H. Renken on June 3, 1956, in Bloomington. He survives.
Also surviving are her children, Mary (Richard) Hall, Pontiac; James (Marsha) Renken, Florida; and Michael Renken, Atlanta; sisters, Marlene Hitch, Shirley, and Betty (Henry) Steiner, Stratford, Wis.; six grandchildren, Melody, Tony, Jayme, James, Christopher and Kimberly; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Elmer E. Waller.
Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy. She enjoyed church activities, cooking, needlework and crochet projects for her home and for her family.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the ladies' bible class and served on the church altar guild.
