BLOOMINGTON - Eugene E. Michels, loving husband and father, died peacefully at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday (June 13, 2007) at his home at 78 Crista Ann Court, Bloomington.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Monsignor Eric Powell officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Cancer Center or Epiphany Catholic Church, both in Normal.

Eugene was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Fond du Lac, Wis., the son of Hiram and Dorothy Merten Michels. He married Lucina Wingers on June 26, 1954, in Fond du Lac. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kim McLennon, Maplewood, N.J., and Karen (Glenn) Michels-Burke, Sandwich, Mass.; two sons, Kevin (Maureen) Michels, Milford, Conn., and Kurt (Jessica) Michels, Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, Siobhan and Cassandra McLennon, Matthew and Sarah Michels, Joshua and Jordan Michels and Jeremy Burke; sisters-in-law, Alice (Norb) Riegert, Rose (Jerry) Watry, Beverly Michels, Lillian Wingers and Georgine (Don) Casement; brother-in-law, Elroy (Lori) Wingers; and 13 nephews and nine nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy; three brothers, Arlyn, Donald and Dave; and three nephews.

Eugene was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1945 to 1947. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and worked for General Electric for 30 years, retiring as manager of computer systems.

He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, and the Knights of Columbus. Eugene enjoyed bridge, cribbage, crossword puzzles, reading and ballroom dancing. He was so proud of his grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Jeong for his special care as well as many friends for their care and support.
