BLOOMINGTON - Evelyn E. Spilman, 86, a longtime resident of Bloomington/Normal, died Saturday (June 2, 2007) at Larksfield Place in Wichita, Kan.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, with the Rev. Rebecca White-Newgren officiating. Evelyn will be interred in the East Lawn Mausoleum immediately after the service. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
Surviving are a son, Richard (Joan) Spilman, Wichita, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Catherine, Margaret and Allen. She is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; and her brother, Robert.
She was born Jan. 30, 1921, daughter of Glenn and Elsie Rupp of Carlock, and on Jan. 20, 1946, she married Roy Spilman in Long Beach, Calif. Both had previously worked for State Farm Insurance Cos. When they returned to the area after World War II, the company rehired them. Evelyn worked in the payroll department at State Farm for 39 years, retiring in 1986.
In retirement, she was an avid traveler and did volunteer work at the McLean County Historical Society, Second Presbyterian Church and Home Sweet Home Mission. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McLean County Historical Society or Second Presbyterian Church.
