EL PASO - Evelyn O. Steffen, 89, of 605 E. Sixth St., El Paso, died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 12, 2006) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, El Paso. The Rev. Jack Nicolay will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, El Paso. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, El Paso.

Evelyn was born Aug. 10, 1916, at Panola Township, Woodford County, a daughter of John L. and Sarah E. Mool McDonell. She married Martin H. Steffen on June 4, 1938, at El Paso. He died Nov. 16, 1980.
Survivors include a son, Ron (Nancy) Steffen; three grandchildren, Angela (Joe) Meyer, Heidi (Ronald "OJ") Simpson and Kyle Steffen; one great-granddaughter, Jaelyn Simpson, all of Beardstown; and two sisters, Aldene Kingdon, El Paso, and Marjorie Kingdon, Oelwein, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Evelyn attended the First United Church, Gridley. She and her husband farmed together and in 1978 they purchased Schramm Shoes in El Paso. Evelyn has worked at Schramm Shoes from that day until her death. She was a member of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce; Birthday Club, El Paso; and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. In 2001 Evelyn was chosen as Citizen of the Year for the El Paso Corn Festival.
