BLOOMINGTON - Francis W. “Buzz” Gentes, 84, Bloomington, passed away 4:30p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 21, 2006) at home, after an extended illness.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Fred Belcher officiating. Burial will be in Scogin Hill, Bloomington, with honor guard service by the VFW. Visitation will be from 5 to 8p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Sibley, a son of Daniel and Ellen Lindeloff Gentes. He married L. Nadine Chancellor on Nov. 3, 1944, in Sibley. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Buzz Gentes and Kenneth (Tamara) Gentes, both of Bloomington; Steven (Dianne) Gentes, St. Cloud, Fla.; and Thomas (Rosie) Gentes, Lexington; one sister, Geneva Stein, Dorsey; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
He was affiliated with the Methodist Church.
He was in the Army during World War II, serving from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the VFW.
He was a tile contractor and a dairy farmer, who won many awards with his dairy cattle. Mr. Gentes was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his family and friends.
