GILMAN - Fratie K. Strode, 96, of Danforth died at 1:18 a.m. Friday (June 1, 2007) at the Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth.
His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman, with the Rev. Neil Larimore officiating. Burial will be in Gilman Cemetery in Gilman.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Praireview Lutheran Home or Iroquois Memorial Hospice.
Fratie was born Sept. 14, 1910, in Tompkinsville, Ky., to Lindsey R. and Enna Davis Strode. His childhood was spent in Kentucky. He moved to Illinois at the age of 15. He worked for the Illinois Central and T.P.W. railroads, and also farmed in the Gilman-Onarga area, retiring in 1990.
Fratie married Dorothy Mae Birch on April 15, 1932, in Paxton. She died on June 26, 2002.
Surviving are one son, Ron (Ada) Strode of Las Vegas; three daughters, JoAnne (Dean) Dirks of Ashkum, Marlene (Richard) Bailey of Sadorus and Linda (Charlie) Miller of Danforth; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Strode of North Aurora; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Maybelle Chapman of Tompkinsville, Ky.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a son, Donald; five brothers; and three sisters.
Fratie was a former member of the Pilgram Holyness Church in Onarga, and also was Sunday school superintendent. He was a past member of the Gilman Drainage District. Fratie enjoyed going to farm auctions, street sales and watching the Cubs, Bulls and other sports on TV. He was fond of gardening and sharing his produce with neighbors and friends.
