EMINGTON - Garold Howard, 88, Emington, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 21, 2006) at his home.
His graveside funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Union Cemetery, rural Emington. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Martin-Burke Funeral Home in Cullom is in charge of arrangements.
Garold was born May 28, 1918, in Cardiff, a son of the late Earl and Ruth DeMotte Howard. He married Eunice Lawler on June 3, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death Jan. 2, 2002.
He is survived by one daughter, Jacquelin (Marvin) Burmaster, Kempton; one granddaughter, DeEtte (Malcom) Holm, Kempton; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald (Rose Marie) Howard, Emington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers.
Mr. Howard was educated in Emington area schools and graduated from Kempton High School. He owned and operated G. Howard Trucking Co. in Emington. He served as the mayor of Emington, and was also the Emington fire chief for many years. He received the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award the first year it was awarded. He enjoyed traveling with his wife.
