PONTIAC - Gayle E. Brown, 89, of Pontiac, died 7:45 p.m. Wednesday (April 19, 2006) at Tjardes Health Care Center, Evenglow Lodge.
Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Pontiac, with the Rev. Phillip Icenogle officiating. Private inurnment will be at Union Cemetery, Emington. Memorial gifts may be made to First United Methodist Church or Evenglow Lodge. Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements.
Gayle E. Brown was born at Emington on May 19, 1916, to John and Ethel Miller Lithgow. After her mother passed away in 1918, Gayle went to live with Alexander and Cora Watts Brown, her mother's cousin. They raised her as their daughter and Gayle assumed the last name of Brown.
She is survived by a nephew, Bruce Brown; a niece, Arletta Kostecka; cousins, Darlene and Harold Lithgow; and several other cousins. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents; and by her brothers, Harold M. Brown, Everett Lithgow and Albert Lithgow.
Gayle attended Central Grade School and graduated from Pontiac Township High School in 1934. She worked for the Livingston County Highway Department as office manager, bookkeeper and secretary until she retired in 1978 after 39 1/2 years.
Gayle was very active in the community for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Pontiac Women's Club, Women of the Moose, and numerous other organizations.
She enjoyed playing golf and bowled in local leagues for more than 50 years.
