Gene Edwin Hetz, 82, of Bloomington, passed away surrounded by loved ones Friday (Dec. 22, 2017) at Luther Oaks, Bloomington.
A private family memorial service will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Gene was born May 27, 1935, in St. Louis, Mo., to Benjamin and Dolores Blackmore Hetz. He served his country as a member of the Coast Guard. Gene married Marilyn Joanne Andersen on Aug. 17, 1956. He worked for State Farm for 37 years, retiring in 1997. Gene had his private pilot license and was a member of Crosswinds Flying Club. He enjoyed flying, family vacations in Myrtle Beach, and spending time with his family. He attended East White Oak Bible Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; eight children, Kathryn (Mike) Merrick, Clinton; Elizabeth (Sam) Hendricks, Danvers; Diana (Larry) Heiken, Bloomington; Gene Hetz Jr., Port Chester, N.Y.; Dolores (Gary) Ward, Mackinaw; Stephan (Gerry) Hetz, Eureka; Angela (Chris) Shields, Mackinaw; and Helene (Blake) Vrooman, Bloomington; 23 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
