FORREST - George Eldon Day, 87,-;of 800 S. Francis St., Forrest,-;went home to be with the Lord at 10:40 a.m. Friday (Dec. 23., 2005).
A private graveside service will be Monday at Forrest Cemetery, Forrest, with the Rev. Dennis Powers officiating. There is no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
He was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Fairfield, a son of George and Vera Smith Day. He married Elizabeth Hamilton, Pontiac, on Dec. 5, 1938. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Toby (Donna) Day, Forrest; a daughter, Connie (Denny) Meyer, Minooka; four grandchildren, Deborah Day, Jeffrey Day, Kevin Day and Kimberly (David) Moenter; six great-grandchildren, Ryanne, McKenna, Jonathan and Jonah Day and Mason and Peyton Moenter; two sisters, Wanda Hanson and Judy (Bob) McCollogh, both of Iowa; two brothers, Donald (Karen) Day, Alabama, and John Day, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald and William; his parents; two sisters, Halliavis Day and Marge Toon; one brother, Gene Day; his brother-in-law, Stanley Hanson; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Day.
George Eldon will be missed by his family and his special cat "Socks." He was an avid gardener and master mechanic all his life.-; He also enjoyed NASCAR and his computer.-;
