ROANOKE — George W. Harroun, 79, Roanoke, passed away at 5:17 p.m. Monday (May 9, 2011) at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Sunday at their residence in Roanoke. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is assisting the family with the arrangements. Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1931, in Havana, a son of Elmer A. and Lillian Rudolph Harroun. He married Judith Pisel and later married Margaret “Peg” Gray on Dec. 21, 1991, in Roanoke. She passed away on June 25, 1997. He then married Ida Fritz on Jan. 13, 2001, in Roanoke. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, George Harroun and Ricky (Darla) Harroun, both of El Paso; three daughters, Brenda (Noel) Stallion, Mount Carmel; Rita Bales, Cedar Ridge, Colo.; and Susan (Charles) Pinkham, Secor; two stepsons, Terry Siegmann, Lexington, S.C., and John Siegmann, Bloomington; two stepdaughters, Tammy (Steve) Blumenshine, Peoria, and Virginia (Danny) King, Goodfield; three brothers, Allen Harroun, El Paso; Dave (Lori) Harroun, Bloomington; and Doug (Celia) Harroun, El Paso; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and his three dogs, Pepe, Ming and Chula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, George Harroun Jr.; and one brother, Denny Harroun.
George worked for Caterpillar for 29 years before his retirement in 1991. He later tended bar at Cindy’s Corner Tap in Roanoke and he and his wife helped with steak fries at the Secor Saloon.
