MACKINAW - Gladys P. McConkey, 97, of Mackinaw died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday (May 6, 2008) at Manor Care Health Services in Normal.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Haensel Funeral Home in Mackinaw. The Rev. Kevin Robbins will officiate. Burial will be at Mackinaw Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in memory of Gladys to her church or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Gladys was born Sept. 12, 1910, in rural Delavan, to August and Anna Forbes Naffziger. She married Lawrence "Shake" McConkey on March 3, 1934, in Decatur. He preceded her in death Nov. 8, 1975. Also preceding her in death were two sisters and two brothers.

Gladys is survived by two daughters, Janice Robinson of LeRoy and Gwen (Wes) Nunley of Mackinaw. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Eric Robinson of Springfield; Kenneth (Wendy) Nunley of Morton; Neil (Carol) Robinson of Dothan, Ala.; and Chris (Jessica) Nunley and Jennifer Finch, both of Mackinaw; three great-grandsons; two stepgreat-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Gladys attended school at Boynton Center in rural Delavan and Brown's Business School in Peoria. She worked many years at the Mackinaw IGA. Gladys also did paperhanging in the area for many families. She was a member of Mackinaw Christian Church. Gladys was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
