NORMAL — Glenn Oscar Rinker, 91, of Normal, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Monday (Jan. 19, 2015) at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal.
Per Glenn’s request, his body will be donated to the Anatomical Gift Association, Chicago. A celebration of life gathering will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church fellowship hall, 300 Sylvan Ave., Grand Ridge, IL 61325.
Memorials may be made to Grand Ridge United Methodist Church. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
Glenn was born June 21, 1923, the son of Oscar and Minnie Freier Rinker. He married Mary Fullerton and later married Ruth M. Hagi Reed Strobel. Both preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son, Glenn (Robin) L. Rinker, Bloomington; daughter; Faith Oglesby, Akron, Ohio; stepchildren, Ruth (Larry) Gage, Grand Ridge; Joy (John) Christie, Ottawa; and Linn Reed, rural Grand Ridge. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry Rinker; two brothers, Ross and Harold Rinker; and a sister, Catherine Taylor.
In his younger years, Glenn worked on the family farm in Grand Ridge, then took a job with the highway department in maintenance, where he worked for eight years. Later, he worked and retired after 20 years from Snap-on Tools in the shipping and receiving department.
Glenn loved to travel, enjoying his “golden years.”
