WILMINGTON, N.C. — Grace “Gracie” Louise Cornes Denk, 21, Wilmington, N.C., was taken from us Jan. 28, 2014, in Wilmington, N.C.
She was born Feb. 25, 1992, in Evanston.
Gracie is survived by her parents, Bonnie Matheson Cornes Anderson, Livingston, Mont., formerly of Bloomington, and David Cornes, Chicago; siblings, David Cornes Jr., Chicago; Annie (John) Babbitt, Belgrade, Mont.; and Molly Cornes, Bozeman, Mont.; aunt, Sandy (Art) Mier, and cousins Lisa, Kate and Owen Morris, and Blake (Jess), Will, Mike and Heidi Mier, all of Bloomington.
Gracie was an amazing young lady who experienced more of life by her 21st birthday than most. She was caring, thoughtful, lovable, intelligent, determined, witty and fierce. She was a focused and determined young lady who moved forward with intention; she wanted everything just right.
Gracie moved to Bozeman with her family in 2001. She received her GED at 15, attended Montana State University at 16 and at 18, proudly answered the call of the U.S. Marine Corps. She served in Afghanistan on a combat deployment with HMLA 269. From an early age she knew she wanted to serve her country.
To say Gracie was a devoted advocate for animals and their well-being would be putting it mildly. She volunteered and worked tirelessly to find homes for animals that she came across. From the time she was a little girl she was drawn to all animals – stray dogs, cats, horses, birds and even rodents. She was kind-hearted through and through.
We are heartbroken and mourn her loss every second of every day, but we know that Gracie is resting peacefully in the presence of Jesus. She is surrounded by friends, family and animals she loved during her short life who have gone before her.
Rest peacefully dear one, we will be together again someday. Love you forever.
2 Corinthians 5:8 “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
We will celebrate Gracie with a service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Springhill Presbyterian Church, Bozeman, Mont.
