Gregory S. "Greg" Smith, 66, of Bloomington, passed away at 7:47 p.m. Monday (March 5, 2018) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will be two hours prior to service. The Rev. Larry Gaylord will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Central Illinois Chapter, 311 W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Ave., Peoria, IL 61605.

He was born May 10, 1951, in Normal, son of Lyle and Lou Leonelli Smith. He married Vickie L. Bourret on Nov. 24, 1972, in Bloomington.

Surviving are his wife, Vickie, Bloomington; his son, Patrick (Laura) Smith, Washington, D.C.; his siblings, Pam Tucci, Bloomington; Steve (Paula) Smith, Nokomis, Fla.; Joan (Jim) Meredith, Libertyville; Jeff Smith, Greenville, Tenn.; and Eric (Diane) Smith, New Canaan, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Jackie (Kevin Mackey) Bourret, Naperville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a 1969 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He worked at Ameren as a journeyman electrician for over 30 years, retiring in 2014. He loved playing tennis and golf and enjoyed following all sports, especially Chicago sports teams.

Greg was a giving and generous man. He was proud to be a blood donor for the American Red Cross for 25 years and recently reached a milestone of donating 8.5 gallons of blood. Greg is still giving to others by being a tissue donor.

Greg’s character and sense of humor will be greatly missed by his family, many friends, tennis partners and golfing buddies.
