BLOOMINGTON - Harley T. Kiper, 88, formerly of 501 S. McGregor Ave., Bloomington, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday January 28, 2006 in Salinas, Calif. A service will be at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.struveandlaporte.com.
Harley was born June 28, 1917, in Litchfield, Ky., a son of William and Lydia McDougald Kiper. The family moved to Normal in the 1920s. He graduated from Normal Community High School in 1935. On June 25, 1939, he married Gladys Eskridge Kiper at Bloomington. She preceded him in death in 2002.
Harley is survived by a son, Kevin (Sheila) Kiper, Monterey, Calif.; a sister, Bessie Penderel, Livonia, Mich.; and a brother, Roger (Dorothy) Kiper, Bloomington. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
A U.S. Army veteran, Harley served in Europe from 1943-1946. Upon discharge from the Army and return to Bloomington, Harley began a 36-year career at State Farm Insurance in 1947. He retired in 1983.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association or The Salvation Army.
