BLOOMINGTON - Helen G. Bowlin, 93, of 2025 E. Lincoln St., Bloomington, formerly of Collinsville, died at 8:25 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 27, 2006) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Normal.
Her memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Bloomington, with the Rev. Alan Herbst officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Old Du Quoin Cemetery, Du Quoin. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church or Westminster Village Foundation. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington.
Mrs. Bowlin was born Oct. 25, 1912, in Du Quoin, a daughter of John and Cecil Hester Newborn. She married Howard K. Bowlin, of Du Quoin, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Roger (Dana) Bowlin, Kennewick, Wash.; the Rev. Howard B. (Gail) Bowlin, Bloomington; and Duane (Ellie) Bowlin, St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren, Rachel Bowlin, Deborah (Randy) Wood, Michael Bowlin, Elizabeth (Brian) York, and Jeremy and Nathan Bowlin; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, four sisters, four brothers and one great-grandson preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bowlin was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Bloomington; a member and Past Worthy Matron of Rob Morris Chapter 98, Order of the Eastern Star; a member of Past Grand Officers Club, having served the Illinois Grand Chapter as Electa in 1989; and a member of Al Sihah Temple 29, Daughters of the Nile.
Mrs. Bowlin formerly was a loan officer for Roosevelt Federal Saving and Loan in St. Louis, Mo., retiring in 1977.
