LEXINGTON — Helen V. Pampel, 98, of Bloomington, formerly of Lexington, died at 12:56 p.m. Friday (Jan. 2, 2015) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvert–Johnson & Musselman Memorial Home, Lexington, with the Rev. Deron Boyer officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the memorial home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lexington Community Church.
Helen was born Dec. 19, 1916, in McLean County, the daughter of Samual and Lily Johnson Mallory. She married Earlyn Pampel on Dec. 13, 1941, in Lexington. He died in May 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Swartz, Bloomington, and Lana (Russell) Swartz, Normal; six grandchildren, Timothy (Lisa) Swartz, Aaron (Sally) Swartz, Paige (Deron) Boyer, Gary (Arlene) Swartz, Amanda Swartz and Melinda (Chad) Meche; 11 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Richard Swartz; two brothers, Clarence and Ralph; and five sisters, Edith, Anna Mae, Lela, Gladys and Opal.
Helen was a graduate of Lexington High School, Class of 1935. She was a member of Lexington Community Church.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and games with her family. She loved to work on puzzles, crochet and make Christmas ornaments.
