BLOOMINGTON — Helen Ruth Blan, 85, of Bloomington died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday (April 28, 2011) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, with Pastor Allen Steinbeck officiating.
Burial will be in East Twin Grove Cemetery, Bloomington.
Visitation was Sunday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington.

She was born Aug. 5, 1925, in Mount Erie, a daughter of Harry Samuel and Lucy Ann Mitchell Scott. She married William “Russ” Blan on March 25, 1950, in Clinton. He died in May 1977.
Surviving is a daughter, Bonnie Lou Scheffert, Normal; three grandchildren, Todd Alan (Kelly) Scheffert, Bloomington; John P. (Shelly) Blan; and Jenny L. Blan; six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jonathan, Shelby, Dalton and Blaze Blan and Josey Wehmeier; a great-grandchild, Harmony; a brother, Walter Thomas (Doris) Scott, Eureka; a sister, Viola (Jean “Bud”) Hinthorne, El Paso; and two sisters-in-law, Leona “Oney” Scott and Jane Scott.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Thomas “Tom” Blan; and two brothers, Cecil R. Scott and Robert L. “Shorty” Scott.
Helen was a cook at Illinois State University for 25 years. Helen loved to laugh, and loved life, family and country music. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
