Holmes Carter Jr., 92, Bloomington, passed away Saturday (Dec. 23, 2017) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Holmes was born July 13, 1925, in Shirley, the son of Holmes Sr. and Mabel Kidwell Carter. He married Betty Hoch on Aug. 28, 1954. She survives.
Also surviving are their children, Mark (Karen Kistner) Carter, Lisa (Randy) Wylde and Julie (Tom) Shackley, all of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Nate (Melissa) Carter; Tanner (Ashley) Carter; Sam, Ben, and Luke Wylde; Kevin, Jack and Maggie Shackley; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Sophie Carter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Holmes served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for many years. He joyfully attended countless sporting events of his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan! He was an avid golfer, Cubs and Bears fan.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
