FAIRBURY - Ira L. Grandon Jr., 85, of Fairbury died at 8:11 am Saturday (June 23, 2007) at his residence in Fairbury.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, also at the memorial home in Fairbury, with Pastor Charles McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury, with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury American Legion and VFW.
Ira was born April 23, 1922, in Wayne County, a son of Ira L. Sr. and Cora (Reed) Grandon. He married Pauline Karlee in 1948 at Rinard. She survives in Fairbury.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Grandon, Westville, and Valla (Sam) Broquard, Fairbury; six grandchildren, Jarrod (Kendra) Broquard, Fairbury; Joseph (Susan) Broquard, Phoenix, Ariz.; Elizabeth Broquard, Fairbury; Rachel Broquard, Peoria; and Jordan Broquard and Seth Broquard, both of Fairbury; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Grandon received his master's degree in education from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He was a teacher for over 23 years at, Flora, Ashland, Mount Auburn and Pontiac Junior High until retirement in 1978.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairbury, and John Joda American Legion, VFW Post 9789, and was a past member of the Lions Club, all of Fairbury. He served our country in the U.S. Marines during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart after being wounded in Iwo Jima. Ira was an avid Cubs fan. He enjoyed nature and spending time with his grandchildren.
