NORMAL - James C. Tippett, 88, of 509 N. Adelaide St., Normal, formerly of Arizona, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday (June 21, 2007) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Normal.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Greg Summers officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date at Endanceo Cemetery, Tucson, Ariz. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the memorial home.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart & Lung Association.
He was born Feb. 21, 1919, in Monticello, to James C. and Mattie Tippett. He married Dorothy Mary Peterson on Jan. 3, 1945, at New Orleans, La. She died in 1994.
Surviving is one daughter, Carol (Carl David) Swallow, LeRoy; one son, James C Tippett, Champaign; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
James served in the U.S. Air Force in public relations positions with Far East Air Forces Headquarters in Manila P.I and Tokyo, Japan. He was the news service director and director of publications for the Illinois Farm Bureau, Bloomington.
James retired as a staff consultant to the U.S. House of Representatives committee on agriculture in 1985. Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved to La Cholla Hills in Tucson, Ariz.
He was a member of the Casas Adobe Congregational Church and the Tucson Elks Lodge 38.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
