James E. Gelsthorpe, 81, of Waynesville, passed away 2:20 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 14, 2017) at his home.
His service will be noon Monday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with David Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Waynesville, with military honors. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to United Cerebral Palsy.
James was born Feb. 13, 1936, in Waynesville, the son of Jessie and Martha (McCallister) Gelsthorpe. He married Marsha L. Wright on Dec. 16, 1961, in Clinton. She passed away April 9, 2013.
Survivors include his children, Rita Byrd, Russellville, Ky.; Randall Gelsthorpe, Waynesville; Ricky Gelsthorpe, Waynesville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Gelsthorpe, Lincoln, and Ginny French, Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother.
James proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the Laborers Local 362 in Bloomington. He was a handyman who loved country and western music, fishing, singing, and especially being with his family.
