NORMAL — James H. Adams, 86, Normal, died at 9:53 a.m. Sunday (May 13, 2012) at his home.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Memorials maybe made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate Children’s Hospital of Illinois, 530 NE Glen Oak, Peoria, IL 61637, or OSF Hospice. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Bloomington, son of Homer Franklin Adams and Vulia Lehman. He married Mary F. Coughlin on May 30, 1947, in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Timothy (Sharon) Adams, Normal; Diane (Jeff) Adams Kruse, Pataskala, Ohio; and Camilla Adams, Brady, Texas; sisters, Hazel Hart, Bloomington; Phyllis Whiteside and Enid Adams, both of Hudson; and Shirley Warren, California; brothers, William H. (Camilla) Adams and John (Betty) Adams, both of Bloomington; and Stephen Adams, California; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Homer Adams Jr., David Adams and Mathew Adams; and sister, Betty Adams.
James served as a Marine during World War II in the Pacific, taking part in the battles at Iwo Jima, Saipan and Tinian.
He retired as a letter carrier from the Bloomington Post Office in 1987.
