BLOOMINGTON - James Russell Owen, 75, of 112 Maizefield Ave., Bloomington, died at 7:40 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 4, 2005) at Scotchwood Health Care Center, Bloomington.
A service celebrating his life will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Chaplain Stephanie Soon, with BroMenn Hospice, will officiate. Entombment will be in East Lawn Mausoleum, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to BroMenn Hospice Program. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
He was born Nov. 24, 1930, in Momence, the son of James Gail and Mabel P. Milligan Owen. He married Mildred M. DeBouck on Sept. 2, 1950, in Kankakee. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Mabel P. Owen, Bradley; one daughter, Vallery (Ron Jones) Knight, Towanda; two sons, Robbin (Carol) Owen, Arlington Heights, and David (Debra) Owen, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one sister, Chlovena (Terry) Hebert, Bourbonnais; eight grandchildren, Shannon, Dane and Brandon Owen, Jenniffer and Michelle Owen, Tiffany and Ayron Knight, and Jeff Aberle; and one great-grandson, Riley Key.
He was preceded in death by his father and one daughter, Sheryl Hart.
Jim had formerly worked at York Radio and Electronics for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He had obtained the rank of staff sergeant. He was an avid Illini sports fan. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, sewing, trivia and caring for and sharing with his beloved grandchildren.
He was loved by one and all. He will be truly missed.
