BLOOMINGTON - Jane M. Shaw, 84, a resident of Bloomington since 1960 and Bickford House, 14 Heartland Drive, Bloomington, since 2003, died at 7:17 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 16, 2006) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Her memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, with the Rev. Ted Pierce and the Rev. Peggy Vogelsinger officiating. Entombment will be private at East Lawn Mausoleum, Bloomington. The family will greet friends following the memorial service, during a luncheon at the church.
Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church building fund or a charity of the donor's choice. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born June 24, 1921, at Cory, Ind., to F.M. and Lola Harr Modesitt. She married Lyman D. Shaw on May 28, 1950, at Shelbyville. He survives.Also surviving are two daughters, Jill Shaw Hoover, Iowa City, Iowa, and Jennifer Shaw Marcucci, San Francisco, Calif.; and three grandsons, Adam (Mishell) Hoover, Carthage, Mo.; David (Natacha) Hoover, Lusanne, Switzerland; and Ethan (Angie) Hoover, Iowa City, Iowa; and four great-grandchildren.
Her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington and the Martha Circle of the church, The Eastsiders, Home Economists Extension unit, Family and Consumer Sciences Professionals of McLean County, Retired Teachers Association and Mutual Funds Investment Club. She was a graduate of Indiana State University in 1941.
Jane formerly taught at the Cory, Indiana, High School; served as editor of American Women's Cookbook; was office manager for Dupont at Hanford, Wash.; was a home advisor for University of Illinois Extension Service; and was home economics teacher at Bloomington High School prior to retirement.
Through their retirement years, Jane and Lyman traveled extensively, attending 20 Elderhostel programs in the United States, plus travel in Europe and Asia.
