BLOOMINGTON - Jean Barr Wright, 84, of 1010 E. Jefferson St., Bloomington, died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 8m 2006) at Lake Wales Medical Center, Lake Wales, Fla.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Roane Deckert officiating. Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery, West Twin Grove, Illinois 9 West, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Illinois Wesleyan University Scholarship Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Jean was born on Feb. 20, 1921, in Rockford, the daughter of George O. and Coryl Gilbert Barr. She married John Leslie Wright, M.D., on May 11, 1942. He survives.
She is survived by her husband, John Leslie Wright; five children, Judy Lee Wright Bartolone, M.D., Bloomington; Barbara (Ronald) Wright Swanson, LeRoy; Patricia (Gary) Wright Corbett, Orlando, Fla.; John L. (Anne) Wright Jr., Ellsworth; and Gretchen, aka Dixie, (Andrew) Wright Anderson, Bloomington; 17 grandchildren, John David (Carla) Olson, Sarah Elizabeth (Rodney) Littwiler, Andrew Wright Bartolone, Julia Lee Bartolone, Ronald Roy (Marlene) Swanson, Leslie Ashton (Jennifer) Swanson, Timothy Allen Barr Swanson, Kathryn Corbett (Bruce) Erickson, Bethany Lynn Corbett, Richard J. Corbett, Meghan Leigh Corbett, John L. Wright, III, Eric Cooper Wright, Patraic Michael Hodgson, Christopher Allen Hodgson, Drue Christopher Anderson and Kristin Leigh Anderson; and nine great-grandchildren, Samantha and Alexis Olson; Veronica, Victoria, Morgan and Rylee Swanson; Molly and Corbett Erickson; and Jonathon Reed Swanson. She is also survived by her brother's widow, Mrs. George Carroll Barr, and children, Bruce, Lynette, Annette and Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, George Carroll Barr; son-in-law, Andrew J. Bartolone, M.D.; and a niece, Joette Barr Burton.
She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington.
Jean graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University, where she met her husband, John Wright, who was majoring in biology and premedical studies. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She was strongly supportive of higher education, finishing her undergraduate work at Illinois Wesleyan University, encouraging her children and grandchildren, being one of a family of five generations at Illinois Wesleyan University. She grew up in a family that treasured national parks with all its wildlife. In her early years, she learned to relish the summers spent rustic camping both with her family in the far North Woods as well as Girl Scouting. This love she would share with her children and grandchildren throughout her life. She was a member of Bloomington 50 Chapter of Eastern Star and a past Worthy Matron. Jean spent many busy years with her girls through her involvement with the Rainbow Girls as mother advisor of Illinois Assembly 7 in Bloomington. She had her real estate broker's license and practiced for several years. She was a member of the McLean County Medical Auxiliary and an honorary member of Illinois Society Medical Assistant Association. She was a member of the Antique Study Group IV and was a member of the Bloomington Country Club. Jean was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Letetia Green Stevenson Chapter in Bloomington.
Jean and John spent 64 years together. They were married in 1942, beginning what was to be a long love affair which was to be the model of attainment for all who knew them. Always Jean loved being a wife and mother, giving her family cherished memories of happy and loving times.
Jean loved to travel with her husband and family. They made many trips across the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America and Europe. Jean was young at heart and all who knew her will remember “happy times together.”
