MAHOMET — Jerry L. Ready, 75, of Mahomet, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 13, 2015) at Asta Care Nursing Home in Bloomington, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

His visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy, and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Mason Christian Church, Mason. The funeral will follow at noon at the church.

Jerry was born Aug. 10, 1939, in Mason, to Lynn and Myrtle Shumaker Ready. He married Glenda Broom of Edgewood on Aug. 14, 1960, in Mason.

After graduating from Effingham High School in 1957, Jerry moved to Champaign, where he was employed as a carpenter for several home builders, including Ted Langhoff, Jim Hansen, Bob Harsha, Joe Hallbeck and Tom Wisegarver. He started Ready Construction in 1975. Based on his reputation for creativity and perfection, he was sought out for uniquely designed and built custom homes and furniture.

Jerry enjoyed bass fishing from the time he was young. He began fishing bass tournaments in the 1980s and won his very first tournament (White Hen Pantry Tournament). He fished Bassmaster, Fishing League Worldwide and Red Man tournaments, which took him and Glenda on many adventures across the country.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Glenda; son, Bob (Kim) Ready, Bloomington; daughter, Joy (Ray) Johannes, Branford, Conn.; and grandchildren, Michael (Hannah) Ready and Sarah Ready, both of Bloomington; Amanda Johannes, Killingworth, Conn.; and Emery Johannes, Tampa, Fla.

Also surviving are brothers, Dale, Mason and Jim, Charleston; and sisters, Sandra Kay Volpi (Danny) Phillips, Willow Hill, and Lynda Ready, Champaign.

His parents and siblings, Barbara Ready, Buck Ready and Johnny Ready, preceded him in death.

Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
