EL PASO — John R. “Dick” Jones, 71, of El Paso, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Thursday (April 13, 2017) at his home.
He was born Jan. 5, 1946, in Pontiac, a son of Harold and Wanda “Pete” Erhardt Jones. He married Nancy L. Bolby on Dec. 1, 1968, in Roanoke. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Stephen Richard “Richie” (Brandie) Jones, El Paso; Jeremy Thomas “J.T.” (Holly) Jones, El Paso; Josey (Dillon) Schouweiler, El Paso; two sisters, Robbie Byrd, El Paso, and Debbie (Keith) McClure, Carlock; and seven grandchildren, Dusti, Becca Pete, and Dalton Jones, Christopher Kindig, Nathan Jones, and Lexi and Henry Schouweiler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, JoAnn Smith, Doris Eyman and Lois Boulware; and one brother, Doug Rathbun.
Dick worked at the Shell gas station in El Paso for many years. He then went on to work for Caterpillar, American Builders, and El Paso Automotive.
Dick worked for many years as an auto mechanic. He served on El Paso’s city council several years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, mowing, following his favorite sports teams, and tinkering in the garage.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, El Paso. The Rev. Mike Oleniczak will officiate. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, El Paso.
