MACKINAW - John “Jack” Gilbert, 57, Mackinaw, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 21, 2006) at Pekin Manor.
He was born Dec. 17, 1948, in Peoria, to Ira “Bud” and Esther Wood Gilbert. He married Cheryl Henderson on June 12, 1971, in Mackinaw. She survives. Also surviving are his parents of Mackinaw; one son, Blaine (Katie) Gilbert, Mackinaw; two grandsons, Weston and Aiden Gilbert, Mackinaw; two brothers, Don (Barb) Gilbert, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Jim (Jane) Gilbert, Tremont; and his mother-in-law, Harriett Henderson, Mackinaw.
For more than 35 years Jack has worked for G.A. Rich and Sons in Deer Creek, where he has been vice president for many years. He was a member of the Plumbers Local 63 in Peoria, served on the board of the Central Illinois Builders and the board of the Underground Contractors Association.
His service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Mackinaw Christian Church. The Rev. Kevin Robbins will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Mackinaw Christian Church. Burial will be at Mackinaw Township Cemetery.
Jack was an avid golfer and NASCAR fan. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa.
