NORMAL - John W. Meyer, 78, of 505 N. Adelaide St., Normal, died at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 1, 2006) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bloomington, with military rites by the honor guard of Carl S. Martin Post 635 American Legion, Normal.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with military graveside rites by the Inter Veteran Burial Squad of Sangamon County. The Rev. Donald Ehlers will officiate
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
Mr. Meyer was born March 23, 1927, in Pana, the son of Walter and Marguerite Lowe Meyer. He married Lavinia Rundle on June 5, 1955, in Colchester.
She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Patti Meyer, Bloomington, and Marie (Scott) Kesterson, Wood River; three stepgranddaughters; and one step great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Meyer was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a life member and past commander of Carl S. Martin Post 635 American Legion and served on the post honor guard. He also was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Voiture Chapter 24, 40 & 8 and a member of Amvets.
He retired from General Telephone Co., Bloomington, after 30 plus years of service.
