John Quiram

John D. Quiram, 74, of Atlanta, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Monday (Dec. 11, 2017) at his home.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Atlanta United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mike Abel will officiate. Burial will follow at the Atlanta Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home, Atlanta. Masonic rites will be accorded at 8 p.m.

He was born Jan. 5, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Gordon DeWitt and Dorothy Janet Cox Quiram. They preceded him in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Staci L. (Cary) Waggoner, Ocala, Fla.; two sons, Jay D (Jody) Quiram, Champaign, and Quentin J. (Lisa) Quiram, Waynesville; five grandchildren, Andi Dansby, John Quiram, Cole Quiram, Jay Gordon Quiram and Cale Quiram; one brother, James G. (Sandy) Quiram, Sycamore; one sister, Janet L. (Ted) Glaser, Fremont, Mich.; his fiance of 30-plus years, Frances Leesman-Nollman; and three nieces.

He attended the Atlanta public schools, Illinois State Normal University and was a 1969 graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis. He operated the Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta from 1976 until 2006. The funeral home was founded by his father in 1940.

He was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church, past master and 52-year member of the Atlanta Masonic Lodge 165 A.F. & A.M., and past president and 47-year member of the Atlanta Rotary Club. John was also a former board member of the Atlanta Public Library and Museum. He was a former pilot and held an extra class amateur radio operator's license through which his call sign was W9JQ. He was also a 40-plus-year member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association. John also enjoyed playing with the Atlanta Community Band for many years.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
