BLOOMINGTON - John W. Ferrell, 77, Normal, died at 5:58 a.m. Friday (June 22, 2007) at Martin Health Center Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Normal, with the Rev. Dr. Dale Beck officiating. Entombment will be in East Lawn Mausoleum. Bloomington. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, First United Methodist Church Choir Program and John W. Ferrell Madrigal Scholarship Fund at Illinois State University.
He was born Jan. 18, 1930, at Oelwein, Iowa, to Glover B. Ferrell and Cecile Belville Ferrell. He married Audrey Grim on June 7, 1951, at Mount Pleasant, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving is children, Cindy (Chris) Wiant, Centennial, Colo.; Greg (Lynn) Ferrell, Princeton; and Lori (John) Wall, Minier; grandchildren, Jennifer Wiant, Jeffery Wiant, Katie Ferrell, Jimmy Ferrell, Dustin Wall, Garrett Wall and Hannah Wall; and sister-in-law, Bernelle Ferrell, Baxter, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Ferrell.
John was a music professor at Illinois State University from 1961 until his retirement in 1987. He received his doctorate in college music education from University of Iowa.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Normal. He was the music director for the madrigals and director of the church choir. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Ferrell loved music, playing bridge, traveling and attending ISU sports programs. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed having his family and friends around him. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
