BLOOMINGTON - Johnnie Ned Weinzierl, 90, of 700 E. Walnut St., Bloomington, died at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday (June 5, 2007) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, Father Ric Schneider officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the memorial home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born Nov. 7, 1916, at Stanford, to John and Fanny Bieringer Weinzierl. He married Gwendolyn R. Blackford on June 5, 1943, at Bloomington. Gwendolyn passed away Nov. 25, 2006.
Surviving is son, Dennis John Weinzierl (Donna Chilton) of Lexington; two granddaughters, Nicole (Brad) Dawson of Glen Ellyn and Melissa Weinzierl of Lexington; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jack, and Kate; and two brothers, Robert Weinzierl of Minier and Donald Weinzierl of Sun City West, Ariz.
His parents, five brothers and one great-granddaughter preceded him in death.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bloomington.
Johnnie formerly farmed in the Stanford and Maroa areas and later worked for the Eureka Co. in Bloomington, retiring in 1979. He served on the Maroa Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years. He also played the saxophone in the Danvers Band for 14 years. He loved his gardening and touched many lives with his generosity with his extra produce.
