DeWITT — Joyce Ann Vandervort, 65, DeWitt, died at 8:35 a.m. Thursday (May 12, 2011) at her family residence in DeWitt.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Joyce Ann Vandervort Memorial Fund.
She was born May 22, 1945, at Chicago, daughter of Charles and Catherine Marek Cahill. She married Joseph N. Vandervort Jr. on April 6, 1963, in Cook County. He survives in DeWitt.
Also surviving are three sons, John (Suzy) Vandervort, Clinton; Jason (Nicki) Vandervort, DeWitt; and Joshua (Betty) Vandervort, Clinton; one sister, Cathy Zieman (Scott Ragan), Clinton; one brother, Charles (Margie) Cahill, Tinley Park; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joseph Vandervort III; and two sisters, Rose Kirby and Charlene Bauer.
Joyce was an avid animal lover. She and her husband ran several pet shops over the years and started the first animal rescue in Clinton. They ran the bait shop in DeWitt for many years.
Joyce suffered a stroke in October 1987 and continuously was rehabbing to make her life better. There was nothing she would not try to do even with her disabilities.
