BLOOMINGTON — Karen Johanson, 94, of Macomb, formerly of Bloomington, passed away at 12:49 a.m. Monday (March 15, 2010) at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A private service will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Village Healthcare Center of Macomb. Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, Macomb, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born in Hoboken, N.J., Nov. 26, 1915, to John and Anine Espersen Clausen. She married Carl Johanson on Nov. 24, 1945, in New York City, N.Y. He preceded her in death Sept. 25, 1983.
She is survived by one daughter, Elaine (Alvin) Goldfarb, Macomb; one son, Eric (Cheryl Gray) Johanson, Hilton Head, N.C.; two grandchildren, Deborah (Andrew) Goldfarb, San Francisco, Calif., and Jason (Meghan) Goldfarb, Bloomington.
Karen lived most of her life in New York before moving to Bloomington in 1996 and then to Macomb in 2003. She and her husband Carl both worked for Kodaic, later she went on to teach sewing at a private school for the blind in New York.
