BLOOMINGTON - Karlheinz Schmidt, 84, of 27096 N. 2550 East Road, Lexington, formerly of Bloomington, died Thursday (Dec. 29, 2005) at 10:25 p.m. at Manor Care Health Services in Normal.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington.
Karlheinz was born April 28, 1921, in Keil, Germany, the son of Robert and Elise Bohrnsen Schmidt. They preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children: Elise (Donald) Hill and their children, Amanda and Kristal Hill of Lexington; Chuck (Theresa) Funk of Armington; Cindy Funk of Bloomington; and Sue (Rob) Deike of Minnesota; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerhardt (Wenona) Schmidt of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheri Funk, and one brother, Robert Schmidt.
Karlheinz attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Bloomington High School.
He retired from Eureka Company in 1986. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Bloomington and the American Legion in Bloomington. He was also a member of the Machinist Lodge 1000.
He loved to fish at Tri-Lakes.
Karlheinz was a great dad and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
